Rochester Police say an officer was injured responding to a domestic incident on Lake Avenue Tuesday night. They were called to the 300 block of Lake Ave., and police say they found a man accused of beating his girlfriend.

Authorities say that as they tried to make an arrest, 31 year old Robert Fleming of the city fought with them and struck an officer in the head with a bottle. The officer suffered a large bruise as well as cuts and was taken to the hospital. He is expected to be ok.

The woman who was beaten was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Fleming will be charged with assault of the police officer, as well as assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, menacing and criminal mischief in connection with the original incident.
