Rochester Police lieutenant dies after his bicycle is struck by a pickup truck

Ontario County Sheriff patch

A Rochester Police lieutenant has died after an accident involving a pickup truck and a bicycle in Canandaigua on Thursday night.

Ontario County deputies say that the RPD lieutenant Aaron Colletti, 44, of Canandaigua, was on his bicycle traveling north on Woolhouse Rd. with a 17-year-old who was also riding a bike, when a pickup truck driven by James Miller, 70, of Canandaigua, struck Colletti with the front right corner of his truck.

Colletti died at the scene from his injuries; the teenager was knocked off his bike but had minor injuries. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

A statement from RPD says that Colletti is a 21-year veteran of the department, and is survived by his wife and four children.

On Twitter, Rochester Police Chief La’Ron Singletary said, "Last night we lost a member of our family. Lieutenant Aaron Colletti was a Father, a Husband, a Brother, a Man of Faith, and a Public Servant. May God Bless the Colletti Family & his RPD Family. May You Rest In Peace."

Mayor Lovely Warren issued this statement Friday morning: “Our community mourns the loss of Lieutenant Aaron Colletti. Lt. Colletti was dedicated to protecting Rochester and was a man of deep faith. A faith he was sharing just yesterday while praying with strangers outside our Public Safety Building for a better world.

My heart is with his wife and four children as they mourn this unbelievable loss. I know our City and our community will hold them and lift them up. Let us all acknowledge and pray for them.”
