Racially Motivated Threat Discovered At Brighton High School

Authorities in Brighton say they are investigating a racially motivated threat that occurred as part of an act of vandalism outside the doors of Brighton High School.

Police are investigating this as a hate crime. Officials say a threat assessment was conducted and it was determined that no immediate danger existed.

"It is abundantly clear that although an immediate threat does not exist, the words used and the hate articulated are deplorable in every way,” Superintendent  Kevin McGowan said. “Personally and professionally, I am deeply disappointed to be acknowledging that an act such as this can and did happen in our schools."

McGowan says Brighton has been a district that has long celebrated its diversity. He says to improve in that regard, it will be important to re-examine its practices and approaches to that effort.
