Park Ave Fest anticipating big crowds with the sunny skies this weekend

Organizers of the 43rd annual Park Ave Summer Art Fest have to be pleased with the weekend forecast: mainly dry and sunny, even if it will be on the warm side on Saturday with highs forecasted for the mid 80s. It will be a bit cooler on Sunday.

More than 350 artists from the U.S. and Canada  will be featured at the juried art show. The festival stretches along Park Avenue from Alexander St. to Culver Ave., and the one and a quarter-mile route includes not only art, but music, including three entertainment stages, and of course, a wide variety of foods.

The festival hours are 10am – 6pm on Saturday, and 10am - 5pm on Sunday.

Organizers bill this event as a family-friendly, alcohol free festival, and Rochester Police say they will have a solid presence at the event to make sure people stay safe. As always, at events like this, they advise festival-goers to get a hold of an officer or call 911 if they see something that just doesn’t look right.

Festival producer Jeff Springut encouraged people to park at several lots that will have shuttles running to and from the festival. If people want to park in the Park Avenue area, they should be sure to read the signs.

“The neighbors spent an inordinate amount of time changing the parking signs to bright red ‘NO, YOU CAN’T’ or green ‘YES, YOU CAN.’ And if you follow the signs, you should be in good shape and save the money on the parking tickets,” Springut said.

Free parking is available behind Gleason Works (1000 University Ave.).  Additional free parking can be found at Monroe Square on Monroe Avenue at Union Street, both lots with shuttles to the festival. There is also limited HANDICAP ONLY parking in the Parkleigh lot on corner of Goodman Street and Park Ave. Enter lot from south side of Park Ave.

Additional off street parking is being offered by the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation located at 962 East Ave. between Berkeley and Barrington Streets, just a short walk to the festival. Public parking in the church lots is $5 per car for festival goers.
