New security checkpoint opens at ROC Airport

The ribbon was cut on the redesigned passenger security checkpoint at the Greater Rochester International Airport Wednesday morning.

Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo unveiled the new checkpoint as part of the ongoing renovations

"Not only does it look better, not only does it feel better, it functions better as well and that’s incredibly important."

The new space has six lanes, which is the same as before, but they are now wider and more flexible.

"The security checkpoint is now 40% larger than the last security checkpoint. And a fun fact on the last security checkpoint, it was actually upgraded in 2005 and folks a lot has changed since 2005."

Dinolfo says passenger traffic at the airport has increased 8% in the last year, which is about 5,000 new passengers.

The new checkpoint also has a designated TSA Pre Check area.

The entire renovation project at the airport is scheduled to wrap up by the end of October.
