The West Irondequoit Board of Education on Friday appointed Aaron Johnson as the district’s next superintendent.
According to the district, Johnson, 45, will succeed Superintendent Jeffrey B. Crane, who is retiring on Dec. 31 after a 44-year career in education.
Johnson, who has been a teacher and administrator for more than 20 years, has been superintendent of schools at Avon Central Schools since 2015.
He is scheduled to start at West Irondequoit on March 4. Jon G. Hunter will serve as interim superintendent until Johnson begins.
The search for a new district leader started in August; the district also conducted focus groups and forums and put out an online survey.
Johnson and his wife, Ainslie, have a 3-year-old son, Abel.
"My family and I could not be more excited to be joining the West Irondequoit community,” Johnson said in a statement.
