File photo

Most area incumbents won their primaries on Tuesday. In Monroe County, there was an upset of sorts, with Ernest Flagler, a city firefighter, defeating County Legislator Leslie Rivera in the 29th district Democratic primary, by about a 63 to 36 percent margin. Rivera was appointed to the post earlier this year.

In the three-way Democratic primary for Rochester City Court Judge, Leticia Astacio was the top vote getter, defeating Michael Lopez and Bill Gargan.

In the Republican primary for State Assembly in the 135th district, incumbent Mark Johns beat Calvin Freiler, 85 to 14 percent.

There was a Republican primary in the 62nd district, the seat that George Maziarz is retiring from, and North Tonawanda Mayor Robert Ortt defeated challenger Gia Arnold.

In Ontario County, Sheriff Phil Povero, who is a Democrat, was also endorsed by the county Republican committee, and he defeated his Republican challenger, Rodney Miller, by about a 78 to 22 percent margin. It was the first primary Povero has faced in some time. Miller is still on the November ballot on the "Voter Choice" party line.
