An initiative which involves providing tax benefits to businesses that link with colleges and universities will get some additional space in the Rochester area.
Start-Up NY provides tax free benefits for a period of time for businesses that locate at college campuses or link up with the universities in some way.
The three-member board that oversees the program has approved plans for Start-Up designations at a couple of new areas in the Rochester area. That includes two buildings at Kodak Park, as well as the Lennox Tech Enterprise Center in Henrietta.
According to the U of R's application, 73 prospective businesses have approached the university about renting space either at the Eastman Business Park or at Lennox Tech.
The Lennox Tech Center is also home to High Tech Rochester, which is one of the main business incubator organizations in the Rochester area. The Start Up New York board this week also approved the tax free designations for Clarkson University, Columbia University and Keuka College.
