Mayor McDowell says the town was prepared with more sandbags this season.

Flooding along the south shore of Lake Ontario is prompting some additional warnings.

The Town of Irondequoit has declared a state of emergency because of rising water levels on the lake and Irondequoit Bay.

Effective 5pm on Friday, all boats on Irondequoit Bay must travel at an idle speed when they are within 500 feet of the shore so that they don’t create a wake.

Boats on Irondequoit Bay beyond 500 feet from the shoreline cannot exceed 5 mph. Town supervisor Dave Seeley says that both Penfield and Webster have implemented similar emergency orders stating that boats must travel at idle speeds within 500 feet of the shoreline.

The emergency order remains in effect until it’s determined  the water levels do not pose a danger.

Flooding on Friday closed parts of Route 14 in Sodus Point.

And the National Weather Service has issued a lakeshore flood watch from Sunday afternoon through Monday afternoon for Wayne County, with northwest winds and high waves possibly causing increased flooding along the shoreline.
