More details on Sears - Marketplace closing

Jan 10, 2019

There are some more specifics now about the impact of the closing of the Marketplace Mall Sears store in Henrietta.

That store is one of dozens that the company announced last month would be closing soon.

The New York State Labor Department says that according to the required notice, that store will close as of March 26th, and 70 workers will be laid off.

The Marketplace Sears is the last one in the immediate Rochester area.

Wilmorite, the mall owner, had said last month that the store closing was not unexpected and the company is still committed to changes at the mal. They say there are several projects coming in the spring.

Meantime, there have been reports this week that Sears Chairman Eddie Lampert has submitted a revised takeover bid of $5 billion for the company. The new bid will be considered during a January 14 bankruptcy auction.
