More Details Released About Fire That Killed Twin Boys In Batavia

TWC News

Genesee County Deputies have released more information about a fire that killed twin toddlers in the Town of Batavia on Friday night.

They say at about 10 pm, dispatchers got a call about smoke and flames coming from a house on State Street Road and that there were children inside.

Intense heat and smoke prevented deputies from entering the house, but firefighters got there minutes later and were able to get into the home.

There are two apartments in the building; the upstairs was not occupied at the time of the fire, but firefighters found the twins, two year old boys, in a bedroom in the rear of the downstairs apartment.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene. They are identified as Michael and Micah Gard. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be smoke inhalation.

It is believed the children were alone in the house at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
