Monroe County 2020 budget approved by the county legislature

The Monroe County Legislature approved the 2020 budget on Tuesday night.

It’s the last one from County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo. The Republican was defeated in the November election by Democrat Adam Bello, who is the current county clerk. Bello will become the first Democratic Monroe County Executive in decades when he takes office next month.

The $1.2 billion budget reduces the property rate by 10 cents, to $8.79 per thousand of taxable value and Dinolfo says it will ultimately result in more than $4.6 million in savings for taxpayers.

Dinolfo says the spending plan will invest more than $565 million in services, programs and initiatives that benefit children and families in 2020.

The budget was passed on a party line vote, and County Legislator Rachel Barnhart tweeted that the reason Democrats voted against the plan is that the budget doesn’t contain enough information.

Republicans will still control the county legislature next year, by a slim margin.
