Mayor Tom Richards Discusses State of the State, Kodak

Rochester Mayor Tom Richards says he is optimistic after attending Governor Cuomo’s State of the State Address.

He says he believes the Governor and the legislature are hoping to maintain the momentum of the accomplishments of 2011.

Richards also addressed reports of a potential bankruptcy filing by Eastman Kodak. He says changes at Kodak are inevitable and the city of Rochester will just have to deal with any problems that may cause.

A report from the Wall Street Journal said that a bankruptcy announcement from the company is coming in the next few weeks.

Richards says Kodak needs to do whatever it has to "get healthy." He added that Kodak has reduced its employment significantly over a long period of time, but has done it in a way that's been very supportive of the community.

Richards says there are institutions in Rochester that will carry us through this, even if Kodak does declare bankruptcy.

Alex Crichton is host of All Things Considered on WXXI-FM 105.9/AM 1370. Alex delivers local news, weather and traffic reports beginning at 4 p.m. each weekday.
