A longtime locally-based sportswear company  may be cutting a number of jobs.

The company is Alleson Athletic, which began in Rochester in 1933. The family owned company was bought a couple of years ago by North Carolina-based Badger Sportswear. Badger is owned by a private equity firm, CCMP Capital.

Alleson Athletic has released a statement saying that as part of a restructuring that the company is planning for May, it has informed approximately 130 employees that their positions may be eliminated.

The company says the affected workers are primarily located at Alleson’s Rochester headquarters and will be offered severance pay and benefits and transition help.

Alleson’s customer service operation is not impacted, and the company says that operation will remain in Rochester with plans for future expansion.

Alleson said in its statement it understands, “…that this restructuring will impact the lives of our employees and their families.  Our goal throughout this process will be to help make any transitions as seamless as possible for everyone involved and to ensure our employees have the resources necessary to move on to new opportunities.”
