There are more changes coming to operations at the local Department of Motor Vehicles offices.
Recently, it was announced that all four DMV branches in Monroe County would be moving to an appointment system only.
Now, County Clerk Jamie Romeo says that all four branches will be closed March 19 and 20 (Thursday and Friday), with all previously scheduled appointments voided.
She encourages residents to check the State DMV’s websiteas many renewal transactions, both license and automobile registration can be accomplished online.
Then, on Monday, March 23, just the Henrietta branch at 2199 East Henrietta Road will be open to limited transactions by appointment only.
A new online appointment system will be available through the County Clerk’s website on Sunday, March 22nd. Anyone wishing to enter this location, even with an appointment, will require screening.
Also on Monday, auto dealers will be able to drop off transactions to be processed at the Irondequoit branch (545 Titus Avenue). Screening will also take place at this location.
Moving forward, Romeo says the Henrietta DMV will be the only one open in Monroe County for individuals who need to stop by the DMV (by appointment only), and the Irondequoit location will continue to be available for auto dealers for drop-off transactions.
“I apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this new policy may cause,” Romeo said. “We continue to monitor the situation and following conversations with County leadership and the State DMV, we determined a brief closure to set up a consolidated and safe process was necessary. I join the National Governors’ Association to urge the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to institute an extension of the REAL ID program.”
