Local artists and makers get the shopping spotlight Saturday

Curated

Plenty of markets and events are trying to get gift buyers to shop locally this holiday season.

One of those is Curated, a market at the Culver Road Armory featuring all handmade and local art and items for Small Business Saturday, which was held this weekend.

Tanvi Asher is the owner of Shop Peppermint, which is also at the Armory, and started Curated three years ago. She says it’s important to keep money local.

"To me, that connection that you make with that person, knowing that you supported them and their family and their art is very important."

Asher says she says she noticed big retailers hosting popups of small businesses to give people the feel of "shopping small." and that people just want more unique items in general.

"But that is all a trickledown effect from the fact that small business are doing extremely well. People just, they’re sick of buying something that they have no idea where it came from."

Curated tookd place on  Saturday  with over 40 makers from Rochester and surrounding areas.
