Historic building in Rochester demolished after weekend fire

Spectrum News

Rochester city officials say that an historic building on South Plymouth Avenue that was hit had to be torn down over the weekend.

The fire at the building at 252 S. Plymouth was reported at about 8 a.m., and created clouds of billowing smoke in that area.

Fire officials say the fire was called in by a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy. A second alarm was called because of the amount of fire and the size of the building.

There were no injuries among the dozens of firefighters who reponded. The cause of the fire is being investigated.

The building was built in the 1870s, and had housed Career Start Workforce Management Group.

The Democrat & Chroniclereports the building is in the Third Ward Historic District and is on the  state and national registers of historic places.

On its Facebookpage Career Start said that "We’re so fortunate that no one was hurt and that our company is web based so we’re able to operate from anywhere."
