Governor's Office Responds To Duffy Status

Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy has withdrawn his name from consideration for a job involving a business organization in Rochester.

Duffy, the former Rochester Mayor, has taken his name out of consideration to be the next leader of the Rochester Business Alliance. The governor's office confirms for WXXI News that Duffy   did interview with the Alliance earlier this month, about the slot that Sandy Parker will eventually be retiring from.

Parker announced just recently she would be staying on past her expected retirement at the end of the year, so that she could help the RBA and the Rochester area deal with some important changes and projects. But the governor's office says Duffy then decided he did not want to pursue the position.

A statement from the Governor's office says that Duffy has committed to serving the rest of his term as Lieutenant Governor which goes through next year.

According to Cuomo's communications director, to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, Duffy has recused himself from all matters relating to the RBA and the Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council. Duffy had been overseeing that council.

Cuomo's office reiterated what the governor has previously said, which was  "We are far away from the political season, " and he will discuss plans for re-election and the 2014 ticket at the appropriate time.

According to the Democrat and Chronicle, Duffy did not rule out applying for the RBA job again.
