The Genesee Brew House in Rochester will be closing temporarily due to the actions being taken to try and contain the coronavirus.

The parent company for the Genesee Brewery, FIFCO USA, announced that the facilities in Rochester, which include a pilot brewery, bar and restaurant will be closing, as well as a Labatt Brew House innovation brewery and tasting room in Buffalo.

They are closing as of Monday and will remain closed for two weeks. FIFCO USA plans to reopen the Genesee Brew House on Monday, March 30, 2020 and Labatt Brew House, which is closed on Mondays, on Tuesday, March 31, 2020. Staff will be paid during this time frame.

“The decision was made out of an abundance of caution and with respect for the well-being of our employees and customers,” said Rich Andrews, Chief Executive Officer, FIFCO USA. “The Governor, Erie and Monroe County Executives and Mayors of Buffalo and Rochester have been clear in their requests of businesses, and we’re going to comply and do our part to help.”

Bars, restaurants and movie theaters are being shut down at 8 p.m. Monday throughout New York, New Jersey and Connecticut because of the coronavirus, the states' governors said.

The governors said restaurants and bars will move to take-out and delivery services only.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he is ``strongly encouraging'' nonessential businesses to close in New York after 8 p.m.

``Our primary goal right now is to slow the spread of this virus so that the wave of new infections doesn't crash our health care system, and everyone agrees social distancing is the best way to do that,`` Cuomo said.

The three states also will limit crowd capacity for social and recreational gatherings to 50 people, effective 8 p.m. Monday.
