BUFFALO (AP) A 44-year-old Canadian man has been arraigned on drug-smuggling charges.
Federal officials in Buffalo say Harinder Dhaliwal of Ontario was part of a group involved in smuggling cocaine and marijuana across the U.S.-Canadian border between 2007 and 2011.
According to the indictment, Dhaliwal conspired with co-defendants Alvin Randhawa and Gursharan Singh to smuggle cocaine into Canada from the United States, and marijuana into the U.S. from Canada via several international bridges.
Investigators believe approximately 2,000 kilograms of cocaine were trafficked during the conspiracy.
Dhaliwal pleaded not guilty on Friday at his arraignment and is being held at Chautauqua County Jail pending trial.
Extradition proceedings are underway to bring the other two defendants from Canada to the Western District of New York.
