Eight new COVID-19 cases confirmed overnight in Monroe County

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Monroe County health department confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Thursday.

In an emailed statement, the county said it now has 30 known cases of COVID-19.

One of the recently confirmed cases is a person who likely flew in to the Rochester airport while contagious, the county said.

Seven people are hospitalized with the disease, and nearly 200 people are in mandatory quarantine, according to the county.

On Wednesday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said businesses would no longer be allowed to have more than 50% of their workforce reporting to work outside the home, with the exception of "essential services" like food and utilities.

Monroe County Executive Adam Bello said he was "in the process" of closing down all nonessential local government functions to help people stay home and stem the spread of the coronavirus.
