Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The Monroe County Department of Public Health said Wednesday that it has received reports of eight deaths from COVID-19, bringing the county's total to 247.

The number of people in hospitals for treatment of the disease in the county fell by 13 since Tuesday -- the largest single-day drop since the novel coronavirus was first reported in the county in March.

Of those hospitalized, the number of people on ventilators in intensive care units ticked down by one on Wednesday, to 16.

The county said it received 21 positive test results for the coronavirus on Wednesday. People diagnosed with the virus ranged in age from a girl under 10 to a woman 100 or older, according to the health department's figures.
