Representative  Joe Morelle (D-Irondequoit), took the oath of office….again, on Thursday.

The new 25th Congressional District representative had actually been sworn in after election day in November, to finish out the remainder of Congresswoman Louise Slaughter’s (D-Fairport) term. The longtime representative died earlier this year.

On Thursday, Morelle was sworn in by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with his wife Mary Beth standing by, for the full two year term that begins now.

On his Facebook Page, Morelle said that, ”I look forward to working with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and my colleagues in the 116th Congress as we seek to create a more perfect union by uplifting hard-working Americans and creating opportunity for everyone who calls our great nation home.”

The 25th Congressional District is wholly contained within Monroe County.

The House on Thursday also elected Nancy Pelosi as its speaker as Democrats take command of the chamber for the new Congress.

Thursday's vote restores Pelosi to the post the Californian held from 2007 until 2011. She's the only woman to ever hold the chamber's top job.
