A company that was created in the split of Xerox into two businesses is employing hundreds of people at the former Medley Center in Irondequoit, and they plan to tack on to that total.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Thursday at the new customer experience center for Conduent,  a business process services company that helps clients in the healthcare, commercial, transportation and public sector.

Conduent's Chief People Officer, as he's known, is Jeff Friedel.

He says the company has clients that include 76 of the Fortune 100 companies and over 500 government entities.

And Conduent continues to grow.

"When we first separated from Xerox in 2016, we had 485 jobs related to this call center work. We're at about 616 people today, one year later.  And we by the end of 2018, we should add an additional 350 employees here at this call center," he said.

Friedel says the Irondequoit location at the former Macy's is ideal, and should serve as a model for what they want to do elsewhere in the country.

The company invested $7 million to renovate the old department store.

Town Supervisor Dave Seeley calls the opening of the call center at the former Medley Center Mall a day of momentum for Irondequoit.

"For the past ten years, you've driven by this empty one million square foot facility and seen nothing happen -- broken promises.  Just to see activity and life here shows that brighter days are ahead," he said.

To encourage Conduent to meet its employment goals, Empire State Development has offered up to $5 million dollars in performance based incentives.

Conduent is holding a job fair for prospective employees this Saturday from 10am to 2pm at Skyview on the Ridge.
