First Hour: School Funding and the Gap Elimination Adjustment

Second Hour: Domestic Violence

In our first hour, we'll look at trouble in the way schools are funded in New York State. Superintendents in suburban and rural districts throughout New York State say they face a fiscal cliff. They accuse legislators of falling down on the job to equitably fund the state’s public education system. We’ll discuss the Gap Elimination Adjustment, plans to use settlement funds towards money still owed to schools, and proposals for future education funding.

In the second hour, the NFL announced last week they have suspended Ravens running back Ray Rice two games for the alleged beating of his then-fiancé, now-wife to the point that she lost consciousness. The league has faced criticism that the punishment sends the wrong message about domestic violence. We’ll discuss greater cultural perspectives of relationship violence and local options for people in abusive situations.
