Climate issues are on the minds of those at Rise for a Resilient Rochester event

Days before the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, local residents shared stories of climate change in Rochester.

It was part of the “Rise for a Resilient Rochester” event held Saturday morning by the Sierra Club and the Rochester Peoples Climate Coalition.

David Alicea is a State organizer with the Sierra Club and says the timing was also great to get climate on people’s minds ahead of midterm elections.

"You know midterm elections tend to have low turn out. A lot of voters that care about climate often don’t actually show up, so think about young people for example. And so really helping use this event to help mobilize people to get people excited and people ready to go to the voting booth in November."

The Rochester event was part of a nationwide series of events demanding bold action on climate change.

"I think one of the things that makes our event unique is the fact that there are community leaders and elected officials who are coming her just to listen. I think it sets a really strong example of leaders who are just willing to listen to their constituents."

The Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco begins September 12th.
