City employee tax forms were subjected to unauthorized access

The City of Rochester has notified employees their W-2 forms were subject to unauthorized access via an internal network drive. Right now, officials believe that access was limited to other city employees.

The city says that 1099 forms issued to city vendors were also accessible on the network drive.

“We have no reason to believe anyone’s identity has been compromised,” said City Communications Director Justin Roj. “The City’s Office of Public Integrity is investigating this matter and will refer evidence of criminal wrongdoing, if any, to the Rochester Police Department. In addition, the City has already has taken action to prevent the release of such information in the future.”

Officials say that 6 city workers have been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

City Hall will be offering identity theft prevention services, without charge, to each city employee.
