Brighton to add more 'open space' to Buckland Park

Spectrum News

The Town of Brighton has just bought more than 26 acres of open space. It’s located on Westfall Road, adjacent to Buckland Park. The town purchased the land from Faith Temple for about $1.2 million

Town Supervisor Bill Moehle calls that a fair price, and he says it will be financed from a couple of different sources.

“Some of it is money that we had set aside in reserve and some of it is new borrowing, but obviously we thought it was important enough to make that purchase,” Moehle told WXXI News.

He says that the town recently finished its comprehensive plan, and it has been looking at options for how Buckland Park is used.

“This parcel was not included in that, so we’ll be talking with the community and certainly there’s nothing that says that it has to be developed;  passive recreation, passive habitat land is also important, so those will be options on the table,” Moehle said.

Moehle says it hasn’t been decided yet just what will be done with the land.  He says the town board will be seeking community input.

The land purchase will now make Buckland the largest park in the town, with more than 147 acres.
