"Ban The Box" Updates & Graduation Speaker Controversy Escalates

http://youtu.be/MwAg__pHid8Have you been convicted of a crime? That’s a question asked on job applications and it’s a question the City of Rochester would like to see banned...for good. We’ll hear from those who argue that questions about criminal history make getting a second chance in life nearly impossible.

Also on the show - in the midst of college graduation season there seems to be a growing trend of commencement speaker controversy throughout the country. We’ll discuss the rise in commencement speaker “drop-outs” which has hit a new peak.

And we’re joined by two University of Rochester students heading to South Africa this summer. They’ll be building a new community center in Egoli, a settlement camp for squatters just outside of Cape Town. Their work is being funded by a grant from Davis Projects for Peace, an initiative that encourages students to design grassroots projects that promote peace and address the root causes of conflict among parties.

Watch this Thursday at 8pm on WXXI-TV, Channel 21.1 and Cable 11 or 1221.
