Arts Organization Concerned About Proposed New Regulation

Proposed New York and federal policy changes could impact area nonprofit organizations.

One possible change in nonprofit regulations would be limiting the amount of money the state doles out for administrative costs.

A task force under Governor Andrew Cuomo recommends diminishing those expenses over time.

Sarah Lentini, CEO of the Arts and Cultural Council of Greater Rochester, discussed the proposed changes at a workshop Wednesday, “Giving that administrative expenses appear to not have a standard definition, and at this point it sounds as though that state agencies and departments are going to define administrative policies differently and apply for this notion of limitation differently across departments.”

Lentini says the uncertainty of administrative compensation adds to struggle of finding funding in the tough economy.

Other policy changes highlighted in the workshop include increased audit requirements, unrelated business taxable revenue and conflict of interest rules.
