A well-known local public relations executive is moving on to a development role with the United Way of Greater Rochester. Barbara Pierce, co-owner and president of Tipping Point Communications will join the United Way as its Chief Development Officer.

One of the factors that Pierce says was involved in her decision to make a transition is  that she and Tipping Point CEO Michelle Ashby have, “created a fantastic team at Tipping Point,” and Pierce says the agency doesn’t really need two leaders, and this is a good way for the company to move forward.

Pierce, who is involved in a number of community organizations including serving currently as a member of the Board of Trustees of WXXI, says that in her new role, she sees “an opportunity to make Rochester stronger.”

Before Tipping Point, Pierce was involved in marketing and public relations for more than 25 years.

She feels that her background in communications will help the United Way tell “the story of Rochester” and get people excited and engaged in helping the community get better.

In her new job, Pierce will lead a team of 23 people in campaign development and oversee the United Way’s fundraising activities.

United Way president and CEO Jaime Saunders says that Pierce, “brings tremendous leadership, a passion for helpoing others and a wealth of knowledge in understanding how to support the needs and goals of our local business community.”
