A summit coming up in Rochester in October will focus on the Latino community in Upstate New York.

The event includes speakers and workshops for those looking to work with and deepen their relationships with the Latino community.

More than 60,000 Latinos live in Monroe County, and Hilda Rosario Escher, CEO of Ibero says it’s essential for organizations in the community to learn how to navigate that market.

"I strongly encourage all organization and businesses to send one or two staff to attend this summit. Individuals who can come back to the agencies and share about our community and what they have learned."

Mayor Lovely Warren says the Latino community in the city and county is growing each year.

"As our city evolves and we welcome new people to our community, our demographics continue to change. It is more important than even that we take into consideration the needs of all of our people, and that includes our Latino brothers and sisters."

She encouraged other mayors of major upstate cities like Buffalo and Syracuse to attend the conference to better serve their Latino populations.

The Upstate Latino Summit is October 17th at the Riverside Convention Center. It is the 11th year of the summit.

This year the annual event coincides with Ibero's 50th anniversary.
