12-year-old boy dies in a fire on Hague Street in Rochester

Rochester Fire Department/Facebook

Rochester fire officials say a 12-year-old boy died in a fire on the west side Monday morning.  Firefighters were called to 371 Hague St. about 9:45 a.m. for the report of a house fire with people jumping out of the windows.

When they got there, firefighters were told there was a 12-year-old still inside the house. The crews searched for the boy while battling the fire.

He was located and taken to the hospital, where he later died of his injuries. It took about 45 minutes to get the fire under control. Eight residents who escaped the fire before firefighters got there (two adults and six children) were taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Two Rochester Police officers were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.  Police say three of their officers had been in the area Monday morning and saw the fire and were able to safely evacuate several people from the house.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Officials say the house is unlivable due to the fire damage.
