Various law enforcement agencies are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Canandaigua that happened Wednesday afternoon.
It happened at the Pinnacle North complex on North Shore Boulevard.
Canandaigua Police Chief Stephen Hedworth says an officer went into an apartment and exchanged gunfire with another person. He told Spectrum Newsthat the officer was not injured by gunfire, but did not say if anyone else was hurt.
The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Services sent out a statement which said that they are aware of a tragic incident involving an off-duty parole officer, who is now deceased. The statement said the department cannot comment because of the ongoing investigation, but said “we grieve for the loss of one of our own.”
But it was not immediately clear whether the person who exchanged gunfire with police was the same person who died.
State Police and Ontario County deputies are also investigating.
