Monroe County & towns announce shelters and warming centers

With the ongoing power outages, and temperatures getting colder,  Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo, Gates Town Supervisor Mark Assini, Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich and Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley, announced the opening of overnight shelters throughout Monroe County for individuals and families without power.

In addition, Daytime “warming centers” are operating in multiple municipalities for County residents.

Currently, the American Red Cross is operating one temporary shelter. This shelter is  located at David F. Gantt Community Center, 700 North Street in the City of Rochester.

On Thursday night, the town-operated shelter at Greece Community Senior Center was serving 40 people. The town-operated shelter at Gates Town Hall was hosting 14 residents, and the town-operated shelter at Irondequoit High School has 12 residents.

The American Red Cross operated shelter at the David F. Gantt Recreation Center was hosting 11 residents. All shelters have additional capacity and officials say they will continue to monitor them throughout the night.

The following town-operated shelters are also accessible to County residents:
