The longtime leader of the Bivona Child Advocacy Center has announced that she will step down in six months. Mary Whittier, the founding executive director of the center will step  down next June.

Whittier says she made her decision "with a heavy heart, " but she says the agency is strong with an excellent reputation and this is the right time to pass the baton to the next leader.

Bivona's Board of Directors will do a national search for a new director.

Bivona is a non-profit organization providing help for children who have been sexually or physically abused..
