Rochester Police have released the names of six people charged with kidnapping after a SWAT team was used last weekend to rescue two University of Rochester students.
Charged with kidnapping in the 1st degree are:
26 year old Lydell Strickland, 23 year old Dennis Perez and 20 year old Leah Gigliotti, all of Rochester and 19 year old Samantha Hughes of Pittsford.
Charged with 2nd degree kidnapping are:
Inalia Rolldan and Ruth Lora, two 19 year olds from Rochester.
Police say a BMW which was being sought as part of the investigation has been recovered.
The six suspects were arrested after two 21 year old seniors, both from Illinois, Ani Okeke Ewo and Nicholas Kollias, went missing over the weekend . They were freed Sunday night by a police Swat Team from a house on Harvest St. on the northeast side.
Specific details including a possible motive for the kidnapping have not been revealed yet.
University of Rochester President Joel Seligman released a statement on Monday saying that he will "at an appropriate time in the near future, be able to provide more detail about this very serious, but isolated, incident." He says the two students were being held against their will and everyone is grateful that they are now safe. Seligman emphasized it was an isolated incident and said he wants to assure the university community that its campuses and housing are safe.
