Worker Dies After Accident At Children's Hospital

Officials at the University of Rochester say that a plumbing contractor originally reported to have suffered a medical issue while working at the Golisano Children's Hospital on Tuesday has died.

It's now believed the incident was the result of an accident in which the worker was struck by a metal pipe fitting that he was working on.

The accident happened in a mechanical room that houses the building's plumbing and air handling equipment and is not accessible to hospital patients and staff. Two nearby contractors working in the area were not injured.

The U of R issued a statement saying that it is deeply saddened by the news and it has begun working with the contractors involved and OSHA to understand how the accident happened and any safety issued that could have prevented it.
