ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) _ Thousands of volunteers are expected to turn out for this weekend's spring cleanup being held at state parks and historic sites across New York.
State parks officials say some 3,000 volunteers have registered so far for Saturday's third annual “I Love My Park Day.'' Another 3,000 are expected to join the one-day effort to spruce or renovate about 80 of the state-run parks and historic sites.
Volunteers will spend the day picking up trash and debris, removing invasive plants, planting flowers and trees, and installing benches and picnic tables.
New York State operates 179 parks and 37 historic sites.
Anyone wishing to register for the cleanup efforts can do so on the website of the advocacy group Parks and Trails New York: http://www.ptny.org.
