The foot or more of snow that has fallen in many places around Rochester has made it a challenge to get around for a lot of people, including mail carriers. The Postal Service has put the word out to customers asking them to clear snow and ice from walkways, driveways, and areas around the mailbox.
Spokesperson Karen Mazurkiewicz says otherwise, it can be a real danger to your carrier.
"Getting to the mailbox safely is probably one of the carrier's biggest challenges, sometimes it's snow and ice, sometimes it's porches and decks where maybe ice is falling down and dripping and then freezing over."
Mazurkiewicz says it is up to the carrier's discretion if they feel they cannot deliver mail safely to your mailbox. She says most mail has been getting through, even with the challenges presented by some very snowy side-streets.
