After Cyberattack, Excellus CEO Says The Company Is Doing All It Can

The leader of Western New York’s largest insurer spoke to WXXI about the recent cyber-attack.

Chris Booth, CEO of Excellus Blue Cross Blue Shield, spoke to business leaders about continued changes in the health care industry in Rochester Tuesday morning.

The hack exposed the personal information of 10 and a half million customers.

Booth notes that consumer information is vulnerable to sophisticated cyber-attacks.

“Companies right now can’t make promises. But what we are doing is everything we can, and there are doing is everything we can and there are significant amounts of investments that have been made, are being made, and will be made in the future to do the best we can,” says Booth.

Booth says customers can enroll in credit monitoring protection through the company website.

“Our message for the consumers is to go on our website and sign up for the protection that we’re providing. That’s really the best thing that they can do for themselves and their families,” says Booth.

The health insurance company faces a class action lawsuit that alleges negligence in handling of consumer information.
