The Wayne County Sheriff says he’s been told by his county’s health department that one of his deputies has tested positive for COVID-19.
Sheriff Barry Virts said on Saturday that he has furloughed with pay seven deputies for healthy safety precautions. They will be monitored by the health department.
Macedon Police Chief John Colella has also furloughed three police officers that had contact with the deputy that tested positive for the virus.
Contact information of everyone the COVID-19 positive deputy had contact with from March 25 – 28 has been forwarded to the Wayne County Public Health Department for more follow-up.
Virts says the sheriff’s department road patrol duties and functions will continue without scheduling changes at this time.
