David Gantt Comments On Lovely Warren's Win

In the wake of Tuesday's Democratic mayoral primary victory by Lovely Warren, a lot of people who watch politics are wondering what influence Warren's employer, David Gantt might have.

When Warren, who is city council president, but also employed as chief of staff for Gantt, decided to run, some people wondered if he pushed her to run, perhaps to extend his influence in the city.

Gantt tells WXXI News, he only reluctantly decided to get involved in this process.

"I never pushed her to run , in fact she pushed me to support her, is what actually happened, because I kept saying to her, well, I don't know, I gave her the runaround treatment and she said, I think I want to run and I need your support."

And Gantt says he has no interest in trying to help Warren run City Hall if she is ultimately elected mayor. He is turning 72 now, and says he isn't interested in getting involved in even more government work. But Gantt feels Warren can help create the kind of city that he will feel comfortable living in.

He thinks that along with two other local Democrats, Assemblymen Morelle and Bronson, the three of them can continue to help Rochester progress.
