Rochester School Board to appoint 2 new members

The Rochester School Board has moved to fill two vacancies. They are the slots left open by Malik Evans, who was elected to City Council last fall, and Mary Adams, who announced recently that she would be resigning.

The school board has chosen Beatriz Lebron and Melanie Funchess to join the board. LeBron ran unsuccessfully in last September’s Democratic primary for the board. She is a former bilingual Special Education teacher with the district and is currently employed as a community health worker with Rochester Regional Health.

Funchess is Director of Community Engagement with the Mental Health Association, and has served as an advocate for families and youth for many years.

The school board will consider the appointments at its January 25th business meeting.

Randy Gorbman is WXXI's director of news and public affairs. Randy manages the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
