MCC Students Advocate For Increased Funding At The State Capitol

Student representatives from Monroe Community College advocated for increased funding in Albany today. They joined other colleges across the state as part of the "SUNY Speaks Up" campaign targeting tuition costs, text book costs, and child care for student parents.

Blake Moore is the Vice President of the MCC Student Government Association on the Brighton Campus. He says it was important to put real students and law makers in a room together, in order to give a face and a voice to the issue.

"We decided that it's kind of hard to deny when you have 64 colleges represented on one day coming to the capital to make their voices heard."

He says reducing the financial burden of students is fundamental to the success and stability of the state.

"We are the future. We are the ones who are going to be placed with the burden of moving society forward and we really need the help from the state legislature and the governor so they can really invest in our future and their future as well."

Student leaders are asking for about $250 more per student from the state.
