The House of Representatives has approved legislation which would provide the University of Rochester $68 million in funding to go toward its Laboratory for Laser Energetics.
That according to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter who says that's a $4 million increase over last year's total.
She says the lab supports over 1,000 jobs in Rochester's optics and photonics field. The passage sets the legislation up for negotiations with the Senate to reconcile the bill.
The lab was established in 1970 as a center for the investigation of the interaction of intense radiation with matter.
