Workshop Aims to Build Leadership Skills in Teens

A youth leadership workshop aims to help Rochester youth overcome past failures, low self-esteem while building good character.

It’s called YouthMAX.  A new initiative launched by leadership author, speaker and pastor John C. Maxwell.  Sandra Fink is part of the Maxwell team, who'll be talking with teens about how to navigate through life positively.

"The teaching will focus on how to choose positive daily decisions that will help youth align their actions with their values and learn to achieve lasting  personal success," Fink says. "A lot of times, I think, we focus a lot on the academic part and we don't really get to the core of some of the problems and concerns that students have, which is maybe being bullied, or being a bully because of someone else bullying them."

The YouthMAX Event's goal is to reach 500,000 youth around the globe by challenging them to live the life they want and to positively influence their peers. This week, workshops are at the World of Inquiry School, the Young Mothers and Interim Health Program in the city school district and Church of Love Faith Center.

Workshops are free for participating teenagers between the ages of 14 and 18.
