The latest numbers from the New York State Labor Department show more gains in the local job market.
For the Rochester metro area, private sector employment increased by 7,600 in September compared to September of last year. State Labor Analyst Tammy Marino says the gains were generally broad-based.
“Some of that expansion can be attributed to an uptick in seasonal hiring , however we also had a very strong showing in a number of other key sectors as well.”
Marino says other areas of the economy that saw employment gains locally include education , healthcare, and professional and technical services.
She says that hiring this summer "was actually the best job market that we’ve had since the recession and that trend looks to be continuing into the fall, now, on a negative note we do have some continued weakness in our manufacturing sector."
She says manufacturing continued to be a weak spot.
Marino says since January, local employers have created more than 18,000 new jobs, compared to about 16,000 at this time last year.
