Schumer Urges B + L Parent Firm To Add Jobs In Rochester If Irish Facility Cuts Back

New York Senator Charles Schumer is pushing the CEO of Bausch and Lomb's parent company to strongly consider adding jobs in Rochester if the company closes a contact lens plant in Ireland.

Canada-based ValeantPharmaeuticals reportedly has notified workers at the B and L plant in Waterford, Ireland that it plans to cut 200 jobs and is also seeking a 20 percent pay cut there, or that plant may close.

Schumer spoke with Valeant CEO Michael Pearson and says that after that phone call he is confident Rochester would have a great shot at adding work and jobs from the Irish plant.  Schumer says Pearson told him he would seriously consider the idea.
