Proponents Continue Push for Minimum Wage Hike

Advocates including the Occupy Albany movement and clergy pushing New York's proposal to raise the minimum wage are gearing up for the final four weeks of the legislative session.

At a rally today at the Capitol, they hope to rivet attention on the proposal that has languished. Clergy will also target Senate Republicans in their home districts and advocates for the poor plan to “bird dog” Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo to keep the issue in the press.

The Assembly bill would increase the minimum wage to $8.50 per hour for about one million workers.

The minimum wage is now $7.25 an hour.
